International Communication and Urban Cultural Communication in AI Perspective

Sun Jian has extensive experience in the design field, having worked in Dentsu Advertising (Japan) and DDB Advertising (USA). He is currently the CEO of Sunrise Design in Singapore/Beijing, and has held a number of important positions as a visiting professor and researcher at various universities. His design works have won numerous international awards, including the Gold Medal of the German Federal State Design Award, the Red Dot best of the best award, the German iF Design Award, the IDEA Design Award, etc., and he is quite influential in the international design community.

In the lecture, Sun Jian discussed how to use AI to promote the innovation and design practice of cultural communication from the unique perspective of a designer. He introduced in detail the application of AI technology in urban cultural display, virtual experience and cross-cultural communication. He pointed out that AI tools can help designers create personalised cultural content, enhance visual expression, and create a more interactive and emotionally resonant cultural communication platform.

In order to let the students and teachers have a more intuitive feeling, Sun shared the award-winning cases designed for many countries, among which the AI advertisement video cases are especially eye-catching. These cases fully demonstrated the clever integration of AI and design, realised the infinite possibilities of creativity through AI technology, and brought new ideas and methods for urban cultural communication. In the process of sharing the cases, Sun Jian emphasised that although AI has shown great ability in the field of design, it is still unable to completely replace designers. He mentioned that AI often presents an extremely complicated style when designing, making it difficult to pursue minimalism like designers. The aesthetic ability, innovative thinking, deep understanding of cultural connotations and humanistic care that designers possess are beyond the reach of AI. During the design process, designers are able to accurately grasp the design direction according to different cultural backgrounds, user needs and design goals, and create works that meet both aesthetic standards and practical value.

The lecture provided a platform for teachers and students to get in touch with cutting-edge design concepts and technologies, and stimulated in-depth thinking about the integration of AI and design. Teachers and students of the School of Animation and Digital Arts expressed that through this lecture, they have a clearer understanding of the application of AI in urban cultural communication, and also clarified the unique value of designers in the future design field, and will actively explore the synergistic development of AI and design in their future study and work, and will contribute to the promotion of international communication and urban cultural communication.
