It is an industrial and national social organisation. It is the largest and most influential advertising organisation in China, covering all kinds of advertising activities, and has more than 3,000 member units. It represents the People's Republic of China in international advertising organisations, and the Chinese branch of the International Advertising Association (IAA) is located in CAA. In December 2024, CAA was assessed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs to be a 4A-grade national social organisation.


CAA has more than 20 branches, including Advertisers and Brands Working Committee, Internet Advertising Working Committee, Advertising Advocates Working Committee, Academic and Education Working Committee, and Legal and Ethics Working Committee, etc., which carry out activities in their professional fields.


In accordance with the provisions of the Advertising Law of the People's Republic of China, CACC formulates industry norms, strengthens industry self-discipline, promotes industry development, guides members to engage in advertising activities in accordance with the law, and promotes the construction of integrity in the advertising industry; establishes a good social image of the advertising industry, and contributes to the transformation and upgrading of China's economy, the dissemination of excellent culture, and the harmonious progress of society. It also undertakes the work of the Secretariat of Advertising Ethics Committee.


The Association closely focuses on the basic functions of ‘providing services, reflecting demands and regulating behaviours’, and adheres to the concept of ‘serving the industry's self-discipline, serving the industry's rights protection and serving the industry's development’, through the formulation of standards, legal consultancy, professional training, data service, certificate trademark management, organising the China Advertising Forum/Use Management, and the organisation of the China Advertising Forum/Use Management. It promotes the high-quality development of China's advertising industry through standard setting, legal consulting, professional training, data service, management of certification trademarks, organisation of large-scale industry activities such as the China Advertising Forum/China International Advertising Festival, and the selection of the Great Wall Award/Yellow River Award and other awards approved by the State Council for China's advertising industry.
